New hospital floors at Mayo Clinic in Florida

After almost 2 years of construction, the first phase of Mayo Clinic's hospital expansion in Florida has been completed. The first two units on the new 7th and 8th  floors were added in September 2013. This expansion includes a Progressive Care Unit and a Surgical Unit (General Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Plastics, Otolaryngology and Gynecologic Surgery), providing additional 35 beds.

During the 2nd quarter of 2014, 55 additional beds will be added to our hospital. This expansion represents a great opportunity for our nurses to hone on their skills with the specific patient population they are caring for, as well as learning new skills if they transfer to a different specialty area. It will also translate into possible job opportunities, to meet the needs of our growing local and international patient population.

“The added beds will bring relief during full-census days,” says Debra Harrison, Nursing Administration, who is chief nursing officer in Florida. “This will allow us to place patients in the appropriate specialty unit in an efficient and timely manner.”
